Here I have created a map which shows population density and average commute times for North Carolina counties. If I were to change something, it would be to reverse the symbology so that the circle diameters represented the commute times and the colors would represent the population density.
As far as the correlation between the two variables, I think they are as expected. Where there are longer commute times there is a higher population density (as well as the surrounding areas).
